Meet the Committee

Here is a little introduction to the DSEP committee to help you know who to chat to when you attend our conference in December or any other DSEP events. We will add a new committee member every Monday in the lead up to the conference in December. So watch this space …

Introducing …

Laura Kiemle-Gabbay, Trainee Takeover Lead

Hi everyone, I’m Laura Kiemle-Gabbay, a professional doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology student at LJMU, based in Glasgow. I’m really excited to be helping curate the Trainee Takeover day on BPS DSEP social media platforms! Every Friday this space will be used to share blogs, reflections, content and CPD events created by or relevant for fellow trainees, students and neophyte practitioners. We are hoping to create a space that highlights the unique and diverse training experience, so whether you’re a masters, prof doc or PhD student, QSEP trainee or you’ve just qualified, I want to hear from you! My research interests are mainly qualitative, with a particular focus on perceptions of menstruation in women’s sport and coping with risk in alpine snow-sports, and a fun fact about me is that I was Rod Stewart’s backing singer (twice!).

Robert Morris, DSEP chair

Hello, my name is Robert Morris and I am a senior lecturer in sport social science at Liverpool John Moores University. I am currently the DSEP chair. My main research interests are on exploring the youth-to-senior and retirement from sport transitions, dual careers in sport, and assessing the prevalence of depression in elite athletes. I remain committed to consultancy and applied practice activities, providing consultancy to a range of athletes in sport, including elite and international footballers, rugby union and league players, cricketers, golfers, and orienteers, amongst others. On a recent trip to Australia, I climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge – well worth the effort! I also went to see the All Blacks vis Australia in Eden Park (picture attached!) – not something you can say you have done every day! I look forward to meeting you all at the Conference in December – please do not hesitate to contact the conference committee prior to, during, or after the event with any thoughts or ideas – we would be delighted to hear them.

As a consultant, I have over 20 years of experience working in business, professional sport, and the military. For example, I have consulted with Sony Europe, Sony Mobile, Impact International, the Football Association, the England and Wales Cricket Board, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Great Britain Rowing, and The Royal Air Force. I have been a season ticket holder at Manchester United for over 20 years. There is a lot to be excited about in relation to DSEP and more broadly sport and exercise psychology within the UK.
